Something Different!
Family reunions, meeting friends and special events often involve three generations. The youngest with their energy, away from TV and video games need to be satisfied. Our fenced level paddock is a great and safe games area. A short drive up the road yields a swimming hole. The middle generation can go exploring along the roads across the Barrington Tops and come back with stories of animals, and adventures. The older generation can find a shady spot in the Brook, set up camping chairs, cool their feet in the clear cold water and enjoy a few refreshments and yak about the past. Some will recognise their heritage in the cottage.
Everyone can meet up in the evening for a BBQ around the outdoor fireplace. That's something different!
Step back in time
NSW State records show that Moonan Brook Forestry Cottage School was originally opened in 1879 to meet the demand of a growing population created by gold mining. The school was officially closed in 1968 when the need stopped. It became the Moonan Brook Forestry Cottage and was used as a construction camp for the road builders cutting the 90Km road to Gloucester. The classroom made an ideal bunkhouse.
What makes Moonan Brook Cottage special?
The cottage provides a different, but very affordable experience. The cottage has retained the character and atmosphere of the late 1800's and early 1900's. It has received a few luxuries such as electricity, refrigerators, cooker, bathrooms/showers, flush toilets and hot water.
The two acre fenced, level paddock, is an ideal and safe sports ground. It's the place where children can pitch their tents, play games and enjoy family activities. The older generation can park their caravans and trailers and relax..
Is Moonan Brook Forestry Cottage for us?
The cottage is described as a wilderness hideaway, adjoining a babbling brook - Moonan Brook - which has a source high in the Barrington Tops. It is secluded and peaceful.
The cottage can sleep 8 and the adjoining bunkhouse a maximum of 16.
You can see from the floor plan that there are 3 double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge with an open fireplace, fully equipped kitchen with 2 fridge/freezers, modern electric cooker, wood stove and gas and wood BBQ's. There are two outside flush toilets next to the cottage with electric lighting and sealed pathway. The bunkhouse, with an open fireplace adjoins the cottage.
Our photo gallery of the cottage shows the two large outdoor BBQ setting and parking is not a problem.
Moonan Brook Cottage has been kept as a symbol of the past and has not changed to be in line with today's living.
Warning
If you cannot survive without your mobile phone, texting, TV & video games, internet, air conditioning and a local supermarket then the cottage is not for you.
